WHEN TO SOW
February to April
WHERE TO SOW
Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or in a warm place and keep at a temperature of between 21-25?C (70-75?F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination which usually takes 7-21 days.
WHAT TO DO NEXT
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost has passed, 30cm (12") apart in well-drained soil in full sun.
The scent of Marigolds is thought to deter white fly, and plants are often placed with tomatoes where this is a problem.
