Description
Pepinex was bred for the English weather so in a very hot summer they can become quite large. Pepinex produces long, dark green, thin skinned, smooth cucumbers, which have slight ribs, great taste and are bitter free. It is an all female variety so NO need to cross pollinate. They can be grown outside after May/June, but do much better in a greenhouse.
Harvest
May to November (roughly 8-10 weeks from planting.) Once you see the end of the cucumber changing from pointed to rounded.
Growing Instructions
Plant 45cm apart in well prepared soil or grow bag in a sunny (above 16°C) but sheltered position (they don't like drafts.) Keep them well watered until established and in dry weather. Carefully train them as they grow, clockwise up a string/stake that'S 6 foot high, picking the side shoots and flowers off up to 30cm. Then only pick the side shoots off and let the plant carry on growing up to about 6 feet tall. Once it has reached the top of the string/support let the plant grow wild coming back down towards the floor. Pick off any yellow dead leaves along the way. Only begin to feed once you see the first two cucumbers growing NOT before!

Tip
Pick cucumbers regularly to promote long and continuous harvest Cucumbers prefer humid weather, pop a bucket of water in the greenhouse in the summer and try keeping the path wet. DO NOT use farm yard manure on your tomatoes and cucumbers, as farmers sometimes use a hormone weed killer on barley/wheat/straw that is then used as bedding. This will dramatically harm your crop!
ATTENTION: These plants need frost protection. DO NOT OVER WATER WHEN YOUNG PLANTS. Please note these are living items and size will vary depending on the crop stage. We cannot always guarantee specific varieties.

If you are ordering just Seeds then we offer a set delivery rate of £2.35 for all orders outside 5 miles of Horticentre and FREE delivery within 5 Miles of the store.

We deliver your purchases free of charge within 3 to 5 working days, when you are in a 5 mile range from our garden centre in Overton, Wakefield.
Delivery further than 5 miles of Horticentre in Overton
For delivery of your purchased goods at Horticentre a bit further away from our centre in Overton, we have the following options:
Excluding heavy or oversized goods
- Spend less than £40 and we will aim to deliver within 3-5 working days for £6.99
- Spend over £40 and we will aim to deliver within 3-5 working days free of charge
Including medium, heavy or oversized goods
- Medium sized goods [everything that's not on a pallet] will be delivered within 3-5 days, for £15
- All other heavy and oversized goods being palletized delivered at £49
Heavy Goods & Oversize Items
Some items are classed as heavy or oversize such as bags of compost, gravels, bird seed, large plastics, large boxed items or tools. These may have to be sent by special courier or pallet delivery and as such fall outside our usual delivery charges. This is per our standard Terms & Conditions and if you decide you would like heavy goods delivering then the cost will be shown at the checkout once you have added your postcode to your delivery address.

Fireworks Delivery
Unfortunately our commercial delivery partner is now unable to deliver fireworks and until a new partner can be found we are only able to offer local delivery. Vouchers
We send all our vouchers with own in-house courier or Royal Mail 1st Class Signed. The cost of this service is a flat rate of £2.35 however large value voucher orders may need to be sent by special courier for insurance purposes and there may be a surcharge to pay.
